Our doctors

Dr Angie Phelan and Dr Lachlan Crowther are a husband and wife team who set up EDGE Orthodontics together back in 2011. They are dedicated to helping patients discover a new level of confidence through their smiles and continually provide exceptional care to children, teens, and adults.

As soon as she started dental school, Dr Phelan (Angie) knew she wanted to be a Specialist Orthodontist. She graduated from the University of Queensland in 2005 as a dentist with First Class Honours and went on to gain valuable experience working in general practice before moving to Sydney, where she completed her Clinical Doctorate (DClinDent) in Orthodontics at the University of Sydney.

Having grown up and attended school in Coorparoo at Loreto College, Angie jumped at the opportunity to return to her hometown and open EDGE Orthodontics with her husband, Dr Lachlan Crowther.

Angie has a keen appetite for expanding her knowledge in the field of orthodontics and has been involved in several research projects, including working on a study with the University of Michigan on facial growth and development. Her outstanding clinical results have also been recognised on numerous occasions.

Her accolades include:

  • Australian Society of Orthodontics (NSW) prize for best clinically treated case by a postgraduate orthodontist (2010)
  • Australasian Orthodontic Board Clinical Award (NSW, 2011)
  • Sims Award by the Australian Society of Orthodontists - this award is bestowed on the most meritorious post-graduate orthodontist in Australia (2009/10) and was based on her outstanding clinical ability, university achievements and published research

Angie’s friendly manner and enthusiastic presence helps her patients feel reassured and relaxed at all times. Known for always going the extra mile, she is a perfectionist who prides herself on achieving results that exceed her patient’s expectations.

During her downtime she enjoys keeping fit, spending time with friends and family - and trying not to talk endlessly about teeth with Lachlan!

Orthodontics is more than just a profession to Dr Crowther (Lachlan), it’s his passion. He is particularly committed to delivering exceptional results, believing there is no challenge too great.

After graduating from the University of Queensland (UQ) with First Class Honours in 2002, Lachlan practised at Queensland Health in Longreach for three years. He was the Senior Dentist for the Central West region before moving to Sydney to continue his training. He then obtained his Masters in Orthodontics from the University of Sydney (2008) and was awarded Honours for his outstanding achievements during his training.

After graduating, Lachlan worked in Sydney and Dubbo as an orthodontist in a group specialist practice. He returned to his home town of Brisbane at the end of 2010 to commence specialist practice and established EDGE Orthodontics with his wife, Dr Angie Phelan.

Lachlan is particularly interested in expanding the boundaries of orthodontics through new technologies and aesthetic appliances. He was invited to lecture at UQ and has been involved with the teaching of lingual orthodontics in the past. In the practice, he has a special interest in adult orthodontics and utilises his great communication skills to make all patients feel comfortable when sitting in his chair.

On the off chance you can drag Lachlan away from the practice, he enjoys trying new sports and spending as much quality time with his wife as possible.
